Ba baa da daaaa! Eric has finally arrived folks! He found a girl crazy enough to think he's something special. Here's a picture of me and Lindsay from a couple weeks ago, when I stuttered and stumbled over my words to tell her, do you want to be my.. uh.. like be seeing eachoth... um... I like you. Yep, Girlfriend.

One of the perks of driving to the church early in the morning, outside of more time with Jesus, is that I can usually catch the sunrise. That is until this daylight savings business, now I'm just driving in the dark again. But ya this one I had just left my house turned the corner and God's like, "Hey thanks for getting up to seek me, here's something for you."

Here's a couple I also got in the morning. This is right by the old mill on the columbia bridge. That's actually the moon still going down over the mountain. The moon, the mountain, the river, I had to pull over and get a shot, actually I turned around for this one.

This one I shot while I was out for a stroll downtown. It's actually a little Jewish shop back in the alley between wall and bond. Didn't really seem like Bend, I turned the corner and it was like all the sudden I was in some different place.

OK I have to tell you guys, Lorelei, David, Tara the people who bugged me about not posting.. It worked. That's all I needed for some inspiration, you guys letting me know I have fans out there, who really care... I LOVE YOU GUYS! You really get me... you know?.. Ok I don't know about all that, but nevertheless here is another post. And because it's been awhile this will just be another random whatever happened in my life and I happen to have pictures of kind of thing. Alot of pictures.

Good ol Adopt a block prayer. This is our Saturday mornings before we go out and build the Kingdom of God by feeding the hungry, loving widows and orphans, all that good stuff. You should join us.

Erpie... I used to wonder why they called him that. But then one day I realized that people call him Setherpie, and that must just be the short version. He's going to Africa folks. I feel like that would be even worse than someone telling us they're coming to America, like where in America? How about a state or even a city, they're pretty different. He's going to Uganda, a city named Kampala I believe.

You may have heard of the infamous Forget to shave February, well I missed out on that one but I joined in for the last week to make sure I could be a part of "Mustache March" That's right folks, fathers keep your daughters inside these guys are on the loose.

That lasted a whole 4 hours or so.

Going back a bit further, Janna Meyen's birthday. Here we are representing our local church.

And the infamous Eugene Trip. Went to go see Copeland at McDonald Theatre in Eugene and stayed with mis padres. Super fun weekend.

One weekend and these guys think they're trendy Eugenians hanging out downtown late at night and stuff. Psht. I didn't tell them where any of the super secret cool hangouts were

FOOD TRUCK -
Food truck is part of adopt a block. We go out and give food to low income neighborhoods and people who live in motels and stuff. During the process we usually get a chance to encourage people, pray with people and invite them to church and stuff. It's pretty cool we've seen a lot of people come out destructive lifestyles and totally change their lives around in result the power of God, a little assistance and somebody believing in them. Good stuff.

ANdy Anderson (Bend city manager) came out with us for the homeless count. Which is a census put on by the Homeless leadership counsel... raise funding for assistance agencies..

Here I am back in blog world. Geez a lots happened in a month. Well I haven't posted anything on Christmas yet so here's a few pics from way back in 2006.

We went to idaho, visited fam and played with much cousins.

Also got to sneak in some snowboarding at Tamarack which is up by McCall, coincedently where Trina Stevens parents have a house and she happened to be at that time. So she met up with us and did some snowboarding with me and the rodeo girls (more of my cousins). Gettin back to her roots you know.

OK Well that's all for now, Christmas break was great the only disappointment was missing Danny Shulz and fam in Boise, and miss out on big news like another baby! Which I found out yesterday from some source that I definately should've known before they did! Love ya Danny :) I'll post again very soon

So before you read this read the post under this one

OK so I was writing Brent Earwicker about LA and I realized I really didn't do the LA trip justice with my brief synopsis so here's couple stories from my e-mail to Brent

"Let’s see one of my favorite times was down on Santa Monica we went out with the hope for homeless youth group, and there actually wasn’t very many people there because I guess there had been a lot of arrests lately. But a few people showed up at this meeting place where they give out burgers. One of the guys was sitting on the bench listening to rap on his portable boombox looking kind of intimidating, but I was like forget that Jesus is with me. So I started talking with him and without going on in too much detail he told me about how he had got where he was, about his girlfriend whom recently had his child back home, and his drinking problem that he had but had recently stopped. He said now I just smoke weed because I don’t get crazy. So seeing that he had quit drinking I used that as an entry point and said, “oh so you’re kind of trying to change your life around?’ that led into me telling of how I changed my life around and that it was only by Jesus that I was able to do that… we continued talking and near the end of our time there I said so you know how we were talking about the need to accept Christ? Is that something you want to do tonight? He thought about it for a bit and said ya. So we got to pray with him for salvation right there and it was just cool to see God work like that. We invited him to church and encouraged him and I’m praying that he will stick with it.

Another kind of cool thing, Angela was with our group on adopt a block and we went to the hotels, while there she a couple others knocked on a door that the regular aab person said never opens the door. Well that day she did and she actually invited them in. After a bit they asked if they could pray for her for anything and she asked that they pray that she would be able to quit using drugs. They began to pray and the woman asked that they not touch her because she had a blood disease. They prayed that she would be delivered and the woman thanked them and was sending them on their way and Angela reached out touched her and said in Jesus name. And all the sudden the woman kind of jolted and let out a little yell, after that she began crying and her whole appearance changed, her voice was different she looked different. So she got delivered right there. Kind of cool!

Those are just a couple, but all in all awesome stuff! You’d be proud of your students!"

Los Angeles

Cascade Life Commission made a trip to Los Angeles California last week to go to the Dream Center for a short term missions trip to the city of Angels. We had an awesome time. Times of worship where I couldn't stop saying wow because the presence of God was so strong, leading people to Christ, connecting them with the discipleship program at the dream center, loving the lost in the darkest places of the city ie skid row and surrounding areas. Encouraging kids all over the city. It was really an amazing trip we made an impact and I think even more we were impacted.

This is Angelus Temple, the church Aimee Semple McPherson (foursquare's founder) started. And you can see one of the sections of sky scrapers on the skyline. Just past Angeles temple is Echo Park which used to be one of the roughest neighborhoods in LA until about 10 years ago when the church began to come back to life after sleeping for years. Now it's a pretty peaceful place.
Here's our team going out to storm the streets. We were definately kind of intimidating. 35 white people walking around downtown LA and nobody got shot! Praise the Lord!

These are pictures from Metro Kids. We went out with a bus and the whole side of it folds down into a stage. Then they do church right there on the street, it's cool the kids know now when they should be coming and they come and are ready.

Street Ministry

This is a shot from the Dream Center, that's not even a quarter of the building that place is huge. It used to be a hospital and was abandoned for years. Now it's kind of back to it's roots, helping people.

That's sometimes what I feel like I'm saying when I post a blog, like taking all this time just so people can know about my life, what I'm doing, what I have to say. But it's not really like that, this is healthy communication right? RIght.

Ok first off, I flew on an airplane

And I went to NY with my family to visit my older brother David, his wife Kristen and their new addition Baby Jacob!

We did much baby holding and eating and playing games and such
Jacob Thomas Parnell has red hair, as does his dad David, and as did his greatgrandpa Thomas who he was named after. Thomas and David were the only ones in the whole family with red hair and now Jacob Thomas is the new addition to the red hair club. Kind of cool how that worked out.

Chinese Checkers Yeeeah boy. I dominated at that game. Ok maybe I didn't. My brother Chase on the left did, he won like every thing this weekend. I think the Lord was testing me in my humility. Except for right handed arm wrestling! I beat him in that!

Me and my first nephew. I'm an Uncle now! They were going to name him Eric after me but the papers got all mixed up or something...

It was cool to get to see our old stomping grounds in Rochester. For those of you unaware our family lived there for 3 years back in the day.

This is the house we rented for our first few months when we moved there. It was right on lake Ontario, awesome place.

Also while we were there all 3 of my brothers ran in a road race called the Turkey Trot on thanksgiving day. Here's a few pics

I think there was something like 700 people running, pretty big race!So guess who had the best race time in our family? Chase, I told you he won like everything this weekend. He did pretty good I think he got like 30th over all and actually got a medal for 3rd in his age category. That's my bro! So I decided it's about time for a real post rather than my previous bubble gum (flavorful, brainless, and lacking lasting impact) posts.

I need to vent a bit on the homeless situacion here in Bend. This morning I went to a homeless leadership council meeting. There were about 18 different agencies represented ranging from Bethlehem inn and Shepherds house (shelter organizations) to City council and social programs.
The issue of homeless housing in Motels and hotels was raised and the consensus from St. Vincent de Paul and Compassion Ministries (our group) was that housing in a hotel without future plans for placement was about as effective as a bandaid on a bullet wound.
Good! I thought ok we're recognizing that we need to teach to fish rather than give a fish right? Although I am into to just giving fish because it's all over the Bible, give bread to the hungry, not give bread to the hungry if you think they will get saved and all their problems will go away.

Ok so we addressed that and the consensus was that we cannot do that as far as housing goes unless we're saving them from freezing to death that night. Otherwise 2 days or two weeks later when the funding runs out they're back in the same spot they were in before they came to us.

What kind of irked me was that Bethlehem Inn the main homeless shelter in Bend that is facilitating these meetings, seems to be little or no more effective than the hotel band aids. After the meeting I asked Shepherds house leader, Lynda, what kind of steps Bethlehem inn was taking to rehabilitate people to functioning self sustaining members of society and she said... nothing.

Now I guess this shouldn't come as too much of a surprise as this is not a Christian run organization so they don't have the blessing of the Lord. But what's crazy to me is that we can have 25 people (homeless leadership council) and about 20 agencies, that get together and talk about the problem of homelessness for years and that's all they're really doing is talking. I shouldn't totally discredit them there is a lot of good that is happening, but I think that in order to see any real change in this city the church has to step up. Deut 15 talks about taking the homeless poor into your house, I read today about Paul addressing the Corinthians saying distribute what you have among you so that those who have much can give to those who have little, be generous in your giving, and Jesus saying when you gave food to the hungry water to the thirsty and clothes to the naked, you we're giving them to me, and I have to think... We are absolutely ignoring the message that the Lord gives us. We do just about enough for it not to plague our conscience.

People say, the same thing I brought up earlier, well are we really doing anything for them if we provide for them. And while we need to be careful and strategic in our planning, the answer is if we are Christians then yes we are doing a lot for them. We are called to represent Jesus to people. To love them, to care for them like we would for ourselves. Would we buy ourselves groceries out of care for ourselves? Yes, then likewise we should do that for our neighbors. If we act out of love then people are going to recognize that, and feel and take in this love and desire it more and more and we will be able to point them to the source.

But still people say well if the whole church was doing that then that would be great, then we could provide for all with equality but they aren't so I can't provide for everyone, so what can I do?

Paul says don't give to extent that you suffer, but to the extent that you can. What does that mean, well, I think that we are a long ways away from suffering. So it means giving a whole lot more than we are.

So what will I do wait until the church get's on board with this mission? No I must first give of my own life, live this out myself, and watch the Lord take my little bit, and leaven the whole lump.
